Four thousand years ago ancient people known as the Nineveh, living on the banks of the Tigris River near what is today Mosul, began this day at first light facing eastward in anticipation of the arrival of their Goddess Ishtar. Their Goddess of Romance was their promise of a new beginning and their belief in her fertility was unwavering.
Likewise, Semitic speaking tribes of Syria and North Africa paid homage to their Queen of Heaven, Astarte, in much the same fashion. The Greeks too considered the Vernal Equinox to be a day of worship and readily adopted Astarte, renamed her Aphrodite, and began their veneration of the day w/dawn’s first light. Grecians also took the opportunity to welcome Persephone back from her 6 month banishment in Hade’s realm’s at this time and celebrated her return by joining in a warm welcome w/her mother Demeter, Goddess of Agriculture.
To the west Celtic people paid tribute to their Goddess Olwin, whom they believed brought flowers to bloom on Mother Earth by the simple act of placing her footsteps on barren ground. Germanic tribes and Saxons of Northern Europe celebrated their Spring Equinox by giving eggs as gift in the name of their Goddess Eostre who was represented, symbolically, by a rabbit.
These are all interesting myths, lore and faith based beliefs; all separated by immense time and massive distance yet the message remains the same: re-new, re-birth and rejoice!!
As our lovely Blue Planet hurls itself thru time and space (towards the June Solstice) our daylight hours gradually expand in length and our spirits, minds and bodies rejuvenate themselves as well as we enjoy Mother Nature’s wonders, which are exploding around us. We’re beginning a 3 month venture when the Ram, Bull and Twins play host to Sol as he does his mystic, enchanting and rhythmic moves thru their constellations. Mars, Venus and Mercury impact us w/their influence and our personalities, emotions and ability to process information begin to take form. In a sense it is our own re-birth; a new beginning; a time to rejoice!!
Aries; The Ram 3.21-4.19
Never lacking in leadership skills, those who are Arian born may occasionally lead their pack astray. There was surely a lack of communication recently when Cooper and his pack caused an upheaval in their home w/the chasing of a cat across a table. The Messenger God, Hermes, is gaining in strength as Helios arcs upwards to longer days making this season more favorable for Apollo’s followers.
Taurus; The Bull 4.20-5.20
Winter has been long and cruel and the Bull has lost all patience. Short tempers and snarling lips in Pepsi’s abode is typical of scenes thru-out, but Taurus now re-claims his vitality and leads his subjects into more accommodating situations. Take this time to smell the Milk Bones and enjoy!!
Gemini; The Twins 5.21-6.21
Goals seem insurmountable in Winter’s gloom but that’s about to change - because the Twins offer a double whammy. Kameron begins to show his ‘stuff’ and his fur brothers take notice of his competitive attitude as he makes headway. Obstacles on the agility track are similar to life’s rough pathways and Mercury now gives all Gemini born an extra boost to forge ahead.
Cancer; The Crab 6.22-7.22
Opportunities are everywhere but emotions must be kept in check. Big brothers may take offense when siblings (that would be you Jessie Belle) put their noses where they don’t belong. The Crab will be most active ruling over strife and turmoil so all Cancer born may consider themselves warned.
Leo; The Lion 7.23-8.22
The Lion’s den is active now and optimism runs high for all Leo born as their fiery nature rekindles. Anything is achievable as daylight hours increase and rescue efforts begin to pay off for Anna Nichol’s family. They take to the southern roads w/their message and thrown away, homeless pups are given a second (or more) chance.
Virgo; The Virgin 8.23-9.22
Never one to settle for second place, the Virgin and her followers enjoy the added attention which comes their way during the springtime months. Early evening ventures, in the lingering sunsets, give Pocket ample opportunity to make sure that the spot light shines her way and not (too often) on her sibling.
Libra; The Scales 9.23-10.22
As the earth brings forth new growth all Libra born face a decisive time and struggle w/torment as they look for balance in their lives. On the Colorado plains Buddy is no exception; goals may forsake him but trying to take treats intended for others is never ending.
Scorpio; The Scorpion 10.23-11.21
Being one who scorns the daylight, Scorpio cautiously ventures forth in spring time only to take an accounting of its surroundings. Troubled by doubts Scorpion born often assume that the potholes of life are larger than they really are. Khan is no exception but the bad hand he’s been dealt seems to improve each day.
Sagittarius; The Centaur 11.22-12.21
The Centaur’s arrow flies straight and true assuring success in all that Sagittarian’s attempt. As daylight shortens ‘Down Under,’ Phoebe’s family begins their journey towards a Winter Solstice and cooler temps but attaining their objectives could still be trouble-free.
Capricorn; The Sea-Goat 12.22-1.19
Rewards are ample as the Sea-Goat enjoys the warming days. Sharing and caring are primary concerns and Maxamillion, as all Capricorn born must, endeavors to learn restraint and patience w/others.
Aquarius; The Water-Bearer 1.20-2.18
Snow begins its final retreat in the yards of our ‘furends’ to the north and Felix can once again begin to think of romping in fields of green. The Aquarian nature now thrives and finds that decision making gets easier w/each passing and lengthening day.
Pisces; The Fish 2.19-3.20
Good fortune is w/you most days but now and then we must all learn to take a step back and not be too impatient if we fall short of our goals. This is true for all Pisceans and for Xia is no exception. If a door closes, knock harder; if a hurdle is in the way, jump higher and when things are at their darkest burn another candle.
Paws Up!! to all of my StarGazing Furends!
Hello fellow Blogger!
ReplyDeleteI thought I’d come by and leave a comment on your blog. This is a really neat blog!
I’m currently raising funds for a cat with a broken leg at a local NO-Kill Humane Society. I’m asking people to donate $1. If everyone donates $1 and all their friends donate $1, we’ll hit our target in no time!!
